Contrary to popular belief and reports in recent weeks, no Manchester United player is considered off-limits.

David Ornstein has provided a surprising update this evening, which claims the Red Devils would ‘reluctantly consider’ bids for young prospects Alejandro Garnacho, 20, and Kobbie Mainoo, 19, amid aims to comply with financial regulations.

Both players are classed as homegrown products, despite Garnacho previously representing Atletico Madrid at youth level prior to his 2020 transfer to Carrington. Mainoo, on the other hand, has only ever known United.

While the club aren’t actively looking to offload the up-and-coming stars, they may be resigned to sanctioning their exits if substantial offers arrive.

Ornstein’s report came after Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail suggested Chelsea would be first in line to prise Mainoo from Old Trafford if he were made available in the near future.

He adds that the England international, who featured for the Three Lions in the Euro 2024 final, is requesting around £200,000 a week to sign a new contract with his boyhood club, though his current terms run until 2027 plus the option of an additional 12 months.

While his lengthy deal means United don’t need to panic about the likes of Chelsea snapping him up as a free agent anytime soon, you can understand why his meteoric breakthrough prompted them to act quickly and discuss improved terms – or else risk his head being turned.

That being said, if he is indeed demanding such lucrative wages at this stage of a career, United may be inclined to part ways earlier than they’d hoped.

Elsewhere, Marcus Rashford is expected to complete a move away in the coming weeks after being frozen out of the team by Ruben Amorim. Like Mainoo and Garnacho, the No.10’s sale would generate pure profit for the club, giving them more room to manoeuvre around the strict limitations.
