Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in a situation few anticipated when the season began. A club that has long framed its ambitions around Champions League qualification is now staring anxiously toward the bottom of the Premier League table. According to reporting from David Ornstein of The Athletic, Spurs are already exploring possible replacements for head coach Igor Tudor despite his appointment arriving only weeks ago.
The circumstances reflect the urgency surrounding Tottenham’s campaign, where survival has quickly replaced aspiration.
Tudor’s tenure has begun in the harshest possible fashion. As Ornstein reported, “Tottenham Hotspur are actively working on options to replace Igor Tudor as head coach if they decide another change is needed in the dugout.”
The Croatian coach was handed the role only last month, stepping in after the dismissal of Thomas Frank. His contract, however, was always framed as temporary, running only until the end of the season. Even so, the speed at which pressure has built is striking.

“Tudor was appointed last month on a deal until the end of this season after Thomas Frank’s sacking,” the report states. The expectation was that Tudor’s reputation for stabilising troubled sides might deliver immediate improvement.
Instead, Spurs have lost each of his four matches in charge.
The numbers alone explain the club’s urgency. Four defeats have left Tottenham trapped in what Ornstein described as “a tense battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.” In such circumstances, football clubs tend to act quickly, sometimes brutally.
The timing of Tottenham’s predicament could hardly be more daunting. Their next Premier League fixture comes away against reigning champions Liverpool at Anfield.
For a side struggling with injuries and suspensions, the task feels formidable. Ornstein wrote that “a squad ravaged by injury and suspension travel to reigning champions Liverpool on Sunday, when the situation could get even worse.”
Inside the club, contingency planning has already begun. Tottenham are preparing for the possibility that Tudor’s short reign could end shortly after that match.
Such preparation does not necessarily guarantee action, but it reveals the degree of anxiety surrounding Tottenham’s form.
If Spurs do decide to part ways with Tudor, the next decision may prove even more consequential. The club must determine whether to appoint another interim figure or accelerate plans to bring in a permanent manager.
Ornstein notes that “Should Tudor exit, Spurs must choose whether they stick to the original plan of implementing an interim solution through to the summer or bring forward the installation of a longer-term boss.”
The broader schedule only intensifies the stakes. Tottenham face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last 16 second leg, already trailing 5-2 on aggregate, before a crucial Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest.
The Forest fixture, in particular, carries enormous significance. Matches between relegation rivals rarely lack drama, and this one may shape Tottenham’s immediate future.
For now, uncertainty hangs over the club. Managers often speak about needing time, yet the Premier League table has a habit of accelerating decisions. Tottenham’s hierarchy appear ready for that reality.
From a Spurs supporter’s perspective, the report raises uncomfortable questions about direction and planning. Tudor’s appointment always felt like a gamble, a short term intervention designed to stabilise results rather than reshape the club’s identity.
The concern among fans will be whether constant managerial changes risk deepening the crisis rather than solving it. Losing four matches is alarming, yet the broader context matters. Injuries have shredded the squad, suspensions have disrupted rhythm, and confidence looks fragile across the pitch.
Many supporters will also look ahead to the Nottingham Forest fixture as the defining moment. Survival battles often come down to these six point matches. If Tottenham fail there, the managerial debate may become irrelevant because the table will dictate the narrative.
Another factor supporters will watch closely is recruitment planning. If Spurs move quickly toward a long term coach, that decision must align with a clear football strategy. Changing managers repeatedly without a coherent vision can trap clubs in a cycle of reaction rather than progress.
There is also the psychological side. Players sense instability quickly. If they believe another managerial change is imminent, the atmosphere around the squad can become tense.
For Spurs fans, the hope is that the club’s leadership approach the coming weeks with clarity. The season may still be salvageable, yet the margin for error has almost disappeared.
