David Raya says Champions League penalty shootout defeat left him shattered inside | OneFootball

David Raya has reflected on Arsenal’s Champions League final defeat to PSG, saying the Premier League title parade helped him move on. Arsenal drew 1-1 with PSG, then lost 4-3 on penalties.

“The thing is, when you lose a Champions League final, you get there for the first time in 20 years and you lose on penalties, it breaks you inside.” He told the Guardian.

“I left there with my head held high because of everything we had achieved over the season, but I was destroyed inside because we were so, so, so close...” Arsenal came close to a league and Champions League double, a feat the club have never achieved, and still await a first European Cup.

The following day the Gunners paraded through London to celebrate their first league title in 22 years. “The night was very hard, the next morning as well.”

“But when you get to the Emirates and you see the fans, it lifts you. When you step off the bus with the Premier League trophy and you see the crowd, what it means to them, you understand what you have achieved.” After that campaign, Raya is with Spain at the World Cup seeking a second star.
