David Storch has reacted to Callum Slattery’s goal scoring performance from Sheffield Wednesday’s win against Leyton Orient.

The midfielder gave the Owls the lead in the 19th minute before Joseph Olowu equalised shortly after.

Jamal Lowe’s second half penalty sealed all three points for Henrik Pedersen’s side in their opening game of the new League One campaign.

The Yorkshire outfit are under new ownership since last May, with Arise Capital taking over after months of being in administration.

The group led by Storch have overseen significant changes behind the scenes, as well as a major rebuild of the first team squad.

Slattery was one of the first additions, arriving as a free agent following the expiration of his Motherwell contract.

Storch has praised Slattery’s performance, claiming that he gets luckier the harder he works after his goal came from deflecting a clearance from the Leyton Orient goalkeeper, which deflected into the back of the net.

He expressed his satisfaction with how the team fared in their opening day fixture, and is pleased with the effort put into earning all three points for the team, as they seek a potential promotion push this season.

“Callum Slattery… the harder he works the luckier he gets!” said Storch, via his X account.

“That goal the result of hard work and hustle!

“Great game for Callum and the lads.”

Sheffield Wednesday have started the season with a win, as they look to get back to a competitive level after a difficult 2025/26.

The Owls won just two games in the previous campaign, and have now already reached half that total after just one fixture.

Pedersen’s side will be hoping that it is a positive sign of things to come, as they will want to compete at the top end of the third division table.

Sheffield Wednesday have rebuilt their first team squad over the summer, and could yet make further additions between now and the 1 September transfer deadline.

Slattery was one of the first signings made by Sheffield Wednesday this summer, along with the likes of Ricardo Santos and Jordi Liongola.

Joe Lumley, Sil Swinkels, Tyler Onyango, Barry Bannan and Harry Gray were all other signings made this summer that started the 2-1 win against Leyton Orient.

Louie Barry and Mason Burstow came off the bench in the second half to make their debuts for the Yorkshire outfit.

Billy Mitchell, Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Connal Trueman and William Grainger were the other signings made so far this summer for a total of 14.

The Owls have a lot of potential under these new owners, and rivals will be wary of how quickly it takes for this project to get off the ground.

An away win is a massively promising start for Pedersen’s side, and Slattery making an immediate impact will go down well with supporters.

For a team bringing in so many fresh faces, they have done well to look like a group that have played together for much longer than a couple of months, which is quite promising for their season.
