According to The Athletic, 77-year-old Welsh businessman David Sullivan is ready to sell his 38.8% stake in West Ham after stepping down as co-chair.
Sullivan had served as co-chair for 16 years, having taken control alongside business partner David Gold, who died in January 2023.
The majority shareholder built his fortune in the adult retail and publishing sector. Any sale could throw up fresh uncertainty for West Ham, relegated two weeks ago.
Daniel Kretinsky, who owns 27%, is possibly interested in buying part of Sullivan’s holding. In April, the pair also opened talks with Vanessa Gold, who holds 25.1%, over part of her stake.
That plan would be paused if Sullivan proceeds with an exit from ownership. He has said his decision to step down was prompted by decades-old allegations about his private life, which he called factually inaccurate and totally false, with a BBC Panorama documentary due to air on Monday night.
