Davor Suker has raised the prospect of Modric rejoining Real Madrid, saying, "They asked me where he will continue, either in Milan or in Madrid... I think something is going to happen with Real Madrid." He was speaking to Radio Marca on Wednesday.
He added, "He will return for sure, but I do not know in what way. Let us wait for the World Cup to pass and see what happens." Suker did not clarify whether he meant a playing role or something off the pitch.
"I cannot say more, I cannot say more, my friend," he said.
Modric left Real Madrid and signed a two-year deal with Milan. In his first season at San Siro he made 37 appearances, logged almost 3,000 minutes and recorded 2 goals and 3 assists. Milan did not qualify for next season’s Champions League.
He is currently at the World Cup and has been wearing a protective mask after a cheekbone injury sustained in a friendly against Slovenia.
How any Madrid return might look remains to be seen. Given the overhaul being led by Mourinho and Florentino, it seems unlikely he features in their plans as a player. Speculation has focused on a potential backroom role, with timing still uncertain.
