Dayann Methalie ends season in blistering form for Toulouse | OneFootball

Dayann Methalie, Toulouse’s 20-year-old defender, is finishing in sparkling form after starring in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Lyon.

According to L'Équipe, the France Under-21 international has been among Toulouse’s standout performers in his first Ligue 1 season. He has scored in successive matches, at Strasbourg, a 2-1 win last week, and against Lyon, and also supplied an assist in the 2-2 draw with Monaco on 25 April.

In the first half he repeatedly unsettled Clinton Mata, then latched on to a Yann Gboho pass and calmly opened the scoring with his first chance in the 10th minute. Two surging runs brought dangerous crosses, one scrambled clear on 30 minutes and another that Jacen Russell-Rowe failed to convert on 34.

He flirted with trouble before the interval, almost catching an opponent’s head with his studs on 42 minutes, and he was booked on 44.

Nicknamed the Dragster at the Stadium, he still slalomed through the middle soon after the restart on 52 minutes despite several opponents combining to contain him, before going off, hampered, on 59.

Captain Rasmus Nicolaisen praised his progress but urged consistency, saying he needs to produce this level across more games, not only at the end. He added the squad are pleased with him and hope to keep him. Methalie has extended his contract to 2030 and is viewed as a future pillar, with clear areas still to refine.
