A tough encounter against Guadalajara ends in victory for FC Barcelona as the Catalan giants proceed to the next round. While it definitely took a lot of time to find the back of the net, Hansi Flick’s side eventually managed it.
Ultimately, a 2-0 victory away from home is something that La Blaugrana can look back at fondly. Thanks to goals from Andreas Christensen and Marcus Rashford, Barça live to fight another day in the Copa del Rey.
Here are the player ratings for Hansi Flick’s team.
Player ratings:
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen: 7.0
First start in a long time for the German goalkeeper, but he did well. Made a couple of saves and his distribution was solid as well.
Marc Casado: 7.5
Despite operating as a right-back in this game, Marc Casado held his own quite well. Decent in terms of his workrate and also in terms of linking up with his teammates.
Eric Garcia: 7.5
The Spanish defender was quite active in this game and did a lot of running whenever needed. Moreover, his success rate in terms of both his passing and duels was commendable.
Andreas Christensen: 8.5
Brilliant performance from the Danish defender, who made sure to tend to his defensive duties quite effectively. Moreover, he ended up scoring the crucial opening goal for Barcelona as well.
Jofre Torrents: 7.5
Never looked out of place and ended up doing quite well on the left flank. Overlapped often, tracked back just as much, and was quite efficient in terms of both his passing and defensive duels.
Marc Bernal: 7.5
While he was on the pitch, Marc Bernal was gliding past opponents and winning the ball back for the team again and again. Great first half display from the young Spaniard.
Frenkie de Jong: 9.0
Top game from the Dutch midfielder, who dictated the tempo of the match quite effectively and even ended up grabbing an assist for Barça’s much-needed opening goal.
Fermin Lopez: 6.5
A bit too selfish at times but it was understandable given the situation of the game. However, the Spanish midfielder did put in a decent shift for much of the game.
Lamine Yamal: 8.5
Was a constant thorn to deal with for the opposition and continuously created dangerous chances throughout the game. Ended up proving the assist for Marcus Rashford’s goal as well.
Roony Bardghji: 7.0
Energetic and looked likely to make something happen, Roony Bardghji had a solid outing for Barça. On several occasions, he was able to single-handedly create some good openings.
Marcus Rashford: 8.0
Quite restricted by the opposition, the English forward could not do much in this game in terms of his overall play. Had a few decent attempts at goal, but it took him a decent amount of time before he found the back of the net near the end of the game.
Substitutes:
Pau Cubarsi: 7.0
Added some great defensive solidity at the back and was also solid with his passing.
Alejandro Balde: 6.5
Did not get to do much for most of the second half but still added a bit of extra pace on the left flank.
Jules Kounde: 6.5
A bit sluggish here and there, but Jules Kounde did well to help out the team both defensively and in terms of providing passes to the forwards.
Pedri: 7.0
As soon as he came on, Barça looked to be in even more control of the situation and things started clicking better between the players.
Gerard Martin: N/A
Not enough time or influence on the game to warrant a rating.
