Hours before Luis de la Fuente names his final 26 for the North American World Cup, Spain open on 15 June against Cabo Verde in Atlanta at 18:00 Spanish time. According to AS, several contenders, among them Fabián, David Raya, Zubimendi and Mikel Merino, still face a Champions League final.

In goal, Unai Simón is set to finish Athletic’s league season at the Bernabéu. Raya should face Crystal Palace on Sunday unless Mikel Arteta shields him before 30 May. Robert Sánchez is due to start for Chelsea against Sunderland.

At the back, Pau Cubarsí looks locked in for the 26 and could be spared minutes at Mestalla. Grimaldo is seen as a certainty and Cucurella is also expected to make it. Le Normand’s status is less secure as he sits out Villarreal through suspension, while Laporte’s place appears safe.

In midfield, Rodrigo has overcome a groin issue and could be rested. Dani Olmo is likely to start in Mestalla and remains central for Spain, while Pedri may also be managed. Merino has returned to training after a right foot fracture and might get minutes against Palace.

Up front, Lamine is recovering from a left hamstring issue and will not play in Valencia, yet he is a lock for the list. Nico Williams is also sidelined with a hamstring problem. Oyarzabal, with 11 goals and six assists in his last 10 caps, is expected to start in Cornellà.
