De Regt snatches late winner as Excelsior climb to 14th

Excelsior won 3-2 at Groningen on Saturday at the Euroborg to climb from 15th to 14th in the Eredivisie, while the hosts slipped to 10th.
Tika de Jonge headed Groningen in front in the third minute, meeting David van der Werff's corner at the back post. Casper Widell levelled with a close-range header for Excelsior (40.).
After the restart, Younes Taha restored the lead with a low finish from the left side of the box (47.). Derensili Sanches Fernandes equalised from the centre of the area (65.), and Taha then struck the bar from a free-kick as the hosts pushed again (69.).
Gyan de Regt decided it on a fast break, sweeping in Arthur Zagre's cut-back from the middle of the box (90.).
Etienne Vaessen made five saves to keep Groningen in it as the game stretched late on.
Groningen had 55.5% possession and 12 attempts. Excelsior produced 18 attempts, hitting the target nine times.
