In a recent interview, Tottenham Hotspur boss Roberto De Zerbi has opened up on potential wide attacking signings, prompting Rangers to reignite interest in Mikey Moore, who enjoyed a blistering loan stint last season. The summer arrivals would drop him further down the pecking order, and the gaffer has hinted at his exit later this window.

De Zerbi (as cited by The Herald) said when questioned about the teenager’s immediate future, as he was involved against Auckland FC in their recent pre-season fixture.

How He Impressed Last Season In Scottish Football

The 18-year-old England youth international became Spurs’ youngest-ever Premier League player following his debut in May 2024. He featured 19 times during the eventful 2024-25 season, when they conquered the coveted Europa League crown under Ange Postecoglou, but was loaned out to Rangers last summer to develop his game with regular minutes before securing a first-team role in North London.

Moore went on to feature 47 times, scoring seven goals and assisting four times in all competitions. Primarily a left-winger, he has also been deployed from the right, as a ‘number 10’ and even ‘False 9’ on a couple of occasions. However, the youngster prefers to operate as an inverted wide attacker, and the left-hand flank suits his profile, given he is more comfortable with his right foot.

Why Rangers Must Rope In Moore

Although the Gers have already roped in seven new names, only Lawrence Shankland has been brought in as an attacking reinforcement. They have yet to bolster themselves on the wings, particularly after Andreas Skov Olsen’s return to Wolfsburg after a failed loan spell. Oliver Antman and Nedim Bajrami are likely to be utilised as sporadic options, whereas Danilo’s move to Botafogo leaves them with Findlay Curtis as the only other outright winger.

Thelo Aasgaard, who suffered an injury against West Ham, is more comfortable as an attacking midfielder, and the Light Blues must now bolster the frontline, with several names being monitored, including Brighton’s Amario Cozier-Duberry. But the latter fits in down the right, thus leaving them with little depth on the opposite flank.

While the Gers are rebuilding the squad with several new names, Moore’s experience at Ibrox would bring some balance. Curtis is expected to flourish after impressing on loan at Kilmarnock, and the return of the Englishman must be pursued to inject more flair and finesse.
