Chelsea are set to miss out on deal for Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen.
According to reports, Real Madrid are confident of beating the Blues to the signing of the 20-year-old whose contract with the Cherries contains a £50m release clause.
There have been suggestions that Los Blancos are doubtful about using a significant part of their transfer budget on signing Huijsen as their policy in recent years has been free transfers after signing Kylian Mbappe last summer and potentially repeating the trick with Trent Alexander-Arnold.
However, following an underwhelming season in which they are set to lose their LaLiga title to Barcelona, coupled up a host of defensive injuries, the feeling is that Huijsen will become more expensive if he joins a big English club this summer.
Huijsen, who only arrived at Bournemouth from Juventus last summer, has enjoyed an impressive season with the club. He’s become a mainstay under Andoni Iraola, playing a huge part in their push for European qualification.
Though his performances have attracted interest from clubs in England and across Europe.
Chelsea had been considered favourites to land Huijsen at one stage, whilst links emerged to Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Newcastle.
That said, it’s understood the Spain international’s preference would be to join the 15-time Champions League winners if they can agree a deal with Bournemouth.
Addressing his future following a 2-1 win over the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium recently, Huijsen said: “I think I am pretty relaxed. I'm just a chill guy.
“I don't really think about it too much. I go to training every morning, we have a great group, great staff, and I just enjoy my football and myself.
“At the moment, I am just having fun playing football and it's going well, so I am really happy.”
