Marcus Rashford’s future has become one of the summer’s most intriguing transfer stories following Barcelona’s decision not to activate the €30 million purchase option included in his loan agreement.
That clause expires on 15 June, leaving the England international’s next move very much up in the air.
According to Mundo Deportivo , Barcelona’s position has not changed significantly. Following the arrival of Anthony Gordon in a deal worth €70 million plus a further €10 million in add-ons, Rashford’s pathway back to the Spotify Camp Nou has become more complicated.
A return is not completely ruled out, but it would likely require favourable market conditions. Barcelona would be more inclined to revisit the situation if a new loan agreement became possible or if both the transfer fee and the player’s salary demands were reduced substantially.
For now, the Catalan club are monitoring developments rather than taking action.

Back in England, Michael Carrick has held discussions with both Rashford and Manchester United’s sporting department regarding the forward’s future.
Carrick has not closed the door on reintegrating Rashford into the squad should a transfer fail to materialise this summer.
When questioned publicly about the player, the United manager adopted a cautious tone, stressing that no final decision had been made and that the situation would be assessed over time.
That stance suggests Rashford could still have a future at Old Trafford if no suitable move emerges.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich’s pursuit has become increasingly uncertain.
Several reports suggested that the German champions explored a deal and even held discussions with the player’s representatives. There have also been claims that Bayern considered a bid worth around €25 million.
However, Rashford is not currently a priority target for the Bavarians, significantly cooling speculation about a move to the Bundesliga.

From a sporting perspective, Bayern view him as a versatile attacking option capable of playing alongside or behind Harry Kane and across multiple positions in the front line. The stumbling block appears to be financial rather than tactical.
With Barcelona waiting for the right conditions, Bayern stepping back and Manchester United reconsidering his role, Rashford’s future remains unresolved.
The coming weeks will likely determine whether he returns to Old Trafford, secures a permanent move elsewhere, or finds a way back to Barcelona under a different set of financial circumstances. One thing is certain: the transfer saga is far from over.
