Jan Bednarek headed in the 40th minute to secure Porto's 1-0 win over Alverca. The centre-back then dominated his box to see the game out.

His breakthrough came from a set piece, arriving unmarked to meet Gabri Veiga's corner with a firm header into the bottom right (40.). It was a classic defender's run and a clinical finish from the centre of the area.

After the restart he shut the door. Bednarek cleared everything in his zone, winning four aerial duels and making 12 clearances as Alverca pushed with direct balls and second phases.

The Poland international also kept Porto calm in build-up, completing 67 of 70 passes and adding two interceptions. Six successful final third passes underlined how he stepped in to keep the home side higher up the pitch when needed.

With Alverca slinging in 15 crosses, his positioning and timing were decisive, turning a narrow advantage into control.

Porto remain top of Liga Portugal. They visit AVS next, while Alverca host Estoril.
