Gauthier Hein created the opener in the 49th minute with a precise cross, as Metz lost 2-1 to Monaco.

From a set piece, Hein bent in the delivery that Jessy Deminguet headed into the bottom left (49.). The midfielder kept offering the same angle, repeatedly finding space wide on the right to attack Monaco's back line.

Late on he nearly settled it himself, meeting Deminguet's cross with a header that struck the right post (80.). Moments later he whipped over another set piece delivery that Terry Yegbe nodded just wide (89.).

Hein's numbers backed up the eye test: one assist, five key passes, six accurate crosses from 13, eight touches in the box, 14 successful passes in the final third and nine recoveries. His constant supply pinned Les Rouge et Blanc back and gave Metz territory when it mattered.
