Ephron Mason-Clark struck in the 47th minute to tilt the game, as Coventry City beat Portsmouth 5-1. He later added a second to complete a brace that defined the night.
After the restart he ghosted to the right of the six-yard box and swept home from close range (47.), turning pressure into daylight for Coventry.
He then threatened again with a header that drifted just over (73.). Soon after, Mason-Clark arrived to curl a left-footed finish into the top left corner (76.), this time from Victor Torp's pass.
The winger finished with two goals from three attempts, seven touches in the opponents' box and nine successful final third passes, a clean snapshot of how his movement and timing repeatedly pierced Portsmouth's back line.
With Coventry enjoying 71.3% possession, his starting positions high on the flank and bursts into the area kept Portsmouth's defence stretched and ensured the hosts controlled the key phases.
Coventry host Wrexham next. Portsmouth visit Stoke City.
