Taylor Harwood-Bellis settled it in the 69th minute with a glancing header, as Southampton beat Derby County 2-1.
He had already gone close with a first half header that drifted wide (44.). The centre-back kept offering himself at dead balls, attacking the six-yard line.
He then punished Derby from a set piece, meeting Ryan Manning's cross with a firm header into the bottom left (69.). It was the decisive touch on a night when Saints leaned on delivery from wide areas.
Harwood-Bellis finished with nine clearances, two attempts and one on target, and won four fouls. The numbers underlined how he dominated his box and timed his runs to threaten at the other end.
With the Saints targeting restarts and putting quality into the area, he found space to attack central zones. His positioning and reading of flight kept the Rams' forwards at arm's length.
The Saints rise from sixth to fifth in the Championship and host Blackburn next. The Rams welcome Oxford United next.
How high would you rate Harwood-Bellis' performance tonight?
