Myles Peart-Harris struck in the 19th minute with a close-range finish from a set piece, setting Oxford United on their way to a 2-0 win over Watford.
Peart-Harris anticipated the second phase ball from a dead ball, arriving inside the six-yard area to guide his shot into the bottom left. The touch was calm and decisive, turning an even opening in Oxford's favour.
After the restart he kept Oxford moving up the pitch, winning aerials and regaining possession to relieve pressure and force the Hornets back. His work rate out of possession helped tilt territory when Watford pushed on.
He finished with one goal from one shot, five aerials won, six possession recoveries and two interceptions, a numbers line that underlined both timing in the box and graft without it.
Because Oxford's threat from restarts complemented his aggressive positioning between the lines, his movements repeatedly pinned Hornets defenders and ensured the game's key phases stayed under home control.
Oxford United visit Derby next. The Hornets host Sheffield United.
