Matheus Martins settled it in the 79th minute with a right-footed strike from outside the box, as Botafogo beat Vasco da Gama 2-1.
The winger had threatened throughout, testing Léo Jardim with clean efforts and repeatedly finding pockets off the left against the Gigante da Colina back line.
When the chance came, Martins took Álvaro Montoro's layoff and arrowed a measured finish into the top right, a moment of composure that gave the Glorioso control they had been chasing.
He finished with three attempts, two on target, plus 22 accurate passes and six recoveries, underlining how his positioning and work rate linked counters to territory in the final third.
Operating wide and drifting inside, Martins exploited the space in front of full backs, keeping the hosts' shape unstable and ensuring Fogão's transitions carried a constant threat.
