England head coach Thomas Tuchel withdrew Declan Rice and Noni Madueke at half-time of the World Cup quarter-final against Norway, played overnight from Saturday into Sunday.

According to L'Équipe, the Arsenal midfielder had been weakened by a virus in recent days, was carrying a hamstring problem, and missed training on Wednesday and Thursday.

The match stood at 1-1 at the interval. Rice made way for Eberechi Eze.

On the right, Madueke was taken off for Bukayo Saka after an unconvincing first half. He had been a substitute in the previous round.

Saka had also replaced him against Mexico in the last 16, which ended 3-2.
