Deco meets Barcelona captain’s new agent to finalise renewal until 2028 with option for another year | OneFootball

As reported earlier today, Barcelona midfielder and captain Frenkie de Jong has fully broken off ties with his former agent, Ali Dursun, and joined forces with a new representative.

With the Dutchman’s contract renewal a pressing matter that Barça intend to resolve soon, initial talks have taken place with his new agent.

Fresh meeting with Deco and De Jong’s agent to finalise renewal

Now, according to Jose Alvarez on El Chiringuito TV, a fresh meeting took place between Barcelona director Deco and De Jong’s new agent, Sebastien Delure, to finalise his contract renewal.

De Jong’s current deal runs out in under a year, on June 30, 2026. The plan is for him to sign a new extension until the summer of 2028 with an option for a further year embedded in the agreement.

De Jong has had ups and downs throughout his time at Barcelona, but has always remained committed to succeeding at the club.

Despite speculations over his future and some issues with the board, the 28-year-old has always maintained that he wished to stay put at the club.

As such, a renewal was always likely to go through, with both parties having been in wait for the player to part ways with his former agent, Dursun.

Now that it is done, things are progressing in the right direction with De Jong’s new representative, Delure, meeting with Deco to further negotiations and finalise the player’s new contract.

Like with Jules Kounde’s recent contract renewal, De Jong’s extension, should it be finalised in the coming days, could help Barcelona in terms of easing the Fair Play burden.
