Matt Law of The Telegraph has reacted to comments made by a Bayern Munich board member of Nicolas Jackson’s deal to join them.

It was one of the most dramatic stories of the summer transfer window and it all happened in the final two days, and then spilled over into last week as well.

Bayern were signing Nicolas Jackson on loan from Chelsea for the season and he was in Germany ready to take his medical and get everything done to join them. Liam Delap got injured for Chelsea on the same day and Jackson was then told by Chelsea to return to cover the injury and his move could not happen.

He refused basically, stayed with his agents in Germany, and they all worked to still get it done. Chelsea in the meantime recalled striker Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland to cover the injury to Delap. Jackson’s deal to join Bayern on loan was then completed in the end.

But that was just the start of the drama!

The deal for Jackson to join Bayern was just a loan deal with an obligation to buy, and the comments from Jackson and his camp made it seem like there was no chance he was coming back to Chelsea.

” I have very strong emotions, but not for the reasons you might think, Jackson is quoted as saying by Bayern insider Christian Falk.

“I was a bit sad to leave Chelsea, my teammates, and the fans.”

But what Bayern chief Uli Hoeness said last week turned that on its head: “there will definitely not be a permanent contract. That only happens if he plays 40 games from the start. He will never do that.”

Law on the comments

Matt Law, who is well-connected at Chelsea and amongst agents, had this to say in response to those comments:

“What Hoeneß said that’s definitely wrong is that Jackson & his agents paid 3 million to make it happen.

“I’m told that Jackson and his agents gave up ~1.5 million. There is a condition around 40 apps – the doubt is if it’s 40 starts or 40 apps.”
