Mirassol beat Fluminense 1-0 at the Maião on Saturday to rise from 19th to 18th in the Brasileirão.
Denilson struck in the 36th minute, rifling a right-footed finish into the top left from the centre of the box to cap the hosts' best spell.
VAR denied Flu a route back in the fourth minute of first half stoppage time, with the check confirming no penalty for the visitors.
After the restart, Fábio kept the Tricolor Carioca in it with a string of saves, tipping and parrying efforts as Mirassol threatened a second. Walter preserved the lead late on, catching Kevin Serna's close-range header (89.).
Flu enjoyed 67.5% possession but registered only one effort on target. Mirassol produced eight shots on target from 13 attempts, forcing Fábio into seven saves.
