Dennis Cirkin has confirmed he will leave Sunderland this summer after an emotional farewell on social media.

The player said in a post that representing the Black Cats was “one of the greatest privileges of my life”.

The 24-year-old left-back joined from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021, when Sunderland were in League One, and made over 100 appearances as the club climbed back to the top tier.

He featured 10 times in the Premier League this season, last appearing in the draw at Wolves in early May. Injuries again limited his campaign, though he remained a firm favourite.

Cirkin’s video message reflected on being embraced by the city, the noise at the Stadium of Light and the connection with supporters, adding that he will carry Wearside with him.

His announcement arrives before the club publish their retained list. He departs as a key figure in Sunderland’s rise from League One to the Premier League.
