One Rams youngster is heading to The Baller League UK

An unusual 'transfer' story involving Derby County and The Baller League UK's Prime FC has surfaced.

The Baller League is a fast-paced indoor format of football created by German entrepreneur Felix Starck, and you may have seen clips of it on social media involving ex-professional footballers and content creators.

The third season of the competition kicked off on 16th March and runs through to their finals on 7th June.

As for who Prime FC are, well, YouTuber KSI is their manager, who also happens to be ‘president’ of the UK version and co-founder of Prime drinks with Logan Paul.

But how and why does this involve Derby County?

The official Baller League X account announced on Tuesday afternoon, "Prime FC are about to make history. The first active academy player to play in Baller League."

Derby County's academy goalkeeper, Harvey Rees, is the player in question making the switch.

Whichever way you look at it, it does seem to be classified as an actual 'transfer', as BBC Radio Derby’s Dominic Dietrich quickly followed up with, "Understand a medical waiver has been signed and he goes with the club's blessing. Certainly a first."

This comes as Rees' scholar contract at Moor Farm is due to expire this summer, casting fairly obvious doubt on any extension to a professional deal at Derby.

Upon the loan agreement being announced, one Rams fan noted, "Couldn't get a kick for the U18s and has recently been at Hungerford where he played just 1 game in the 7th tier. Assuming he's just trying to get his name out there."

As per Derby's official website, 18-year-old Welsh shot-stopper Rees joined the Rams' Under-18s squad on a permanent basis as a scholar two years ago.

Having previously been on the books at Swansea City, Rees made just two appearances in the Under-18 Premier League (North) during his first full season in the East Midlands.

Transfermarkt also shows how Rees has spent time in both Hull City and West Bromwich Albion's youth setups this season - all before making the aforementioned move to Hungerford.

With this in mind, regardless of whether his time at Derby is all but over, it'll be interesting to some to see how the youngster gets on.
