The 28-year-old has been frozen out of the first-team picture at the Mestalla.
Derby County have tabled an offer to sign former Brentford and current Valencia winger Sergi Canos, but face competition from the MLS.
Canos finds himself surplus to requirements at Valencia, and struggled to establish himself in the first-team last season after only starting two games in La Liga.
His experience in the Championship - where he scored 30 goals and provided 29 assists in over 190 appearances for Brentford and Norwich City respectively - would certainly make him an attractive proposition for a Derby side looking to claim their first win of the campaign.
The 28-year-old has been frozen out of the first-team picture at the Mestalla and is understood to be considering his options, as per Spanish journalist Salva Gomis reporting via X on Sunday.
Gomis reports that Derby County are one of the sides that have submitted a concrete offer for Canos, despite there being interest from MLS side Los Angeles FC.
Derby's interest in the winger comes at a certainly vital time for John Eustace's side, who have been left short of natural wide options following Corey Blackett-Taylor's hamstring injury.
The Rams have also seemingly missed out on Japanese winger Koki Saito, who has opted to return to Queens Park Rangers instead of making the move to Pride Park, despite Derby being the first club to reportedly reach Lommel's valuation.
The United States could obviously prove attractive to the player given the lifestyle, though a return to the Championship might appeal more to someone who has previously thrived in English football.
Canos has already shown his willingness to consider moves outside of Spain's top-flight, with Gomis confirming the player had rejected an offer from Turkey earlier in the window.
So, his preference appears to be for a destination where he can rediscover the form that made him such a key player during Brentford's rise to the Premier League.
In 21/22 - Brentford's debut season in the Premier League - Canos made 31 league appearances and managed five goal contributions, but in the second tier season prior to that which saw them reach the top level of English football, the former Liverpool youngster netted nine times and provided eight assists in 46 regular season outings.
Canos proved himself to be a top-quality player at Championship level with the Bees, and still only 28, the Spaniard is by no means in the twilight of his career just yet.
His time at Valencia hasn't been a total disaster by any means either, having already provided five assists in all competitions this season ahead of their La Liga clash with Osasuna this afternoon, and also enjoyed a short but fruitful loan spell with Greek giants Olympiacos in 2022/23.
Therefore, Rams fans will surely be hoping that the opportunity to play regular football under Eustace can swing the decision in their favour as the club look to add genuine quality to their wide positions before the window closes.
