Didier Deschamps says Michael Olise has risen from a difficult introduction with France to become a leading figure for the national side.

"When he first joined us with the national team after the 2024 Olympics, things were a little difficult for him," Deschamps said, speaking to Sport Bild.

"But through perseverance and great support, he has become one of the best players in the world. He is our link between the finishers up front and the teammates behind him."

Olise made his France debut in a 3-1 defeat to Italy in September 2024, then established himself as a key part of Deschamps’s team.

At the World Cup he has recorded five assists in five appearances.

France face Morocco in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
