From a sporting perspective, the World Cup was a disappointment for many of FC Bayern’s professional players. Financially, however, the tournament is paying off for the German record champions: The Munich club can look forward to a multi-million sum from FIFA.

Shortly before the World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, Deutsche Kreditbank (DKB) analyzed FIFA’s revenue-sharing payments. According to the analysis, FC Bayern is among the tournament’s biggest beneficiaries.

According to the analysis, the German record champions will receive approximately 2.3 million euros from FIFA’s prize pool. By international standards, this puts them in fourth place. Only Manchester City (3.08 million euros), Paris Saint-Germain (2.49 million euros), and Arsenal (2.42 million euros) are set to receive even larger sums.

Bundesliga ranks second in a comparison of leagues

Overall, the Bundesliga is also performing strongly. According to DKB, German first-division clubs receive the second-highest distribution payments of all top European leagues. Only the Premier League ranks ahead of the Bundesliga.

In addition to FC Bayern, other Bundesliga clubs are also benefiting significantly from the World Cup. Borussia Dortmund receives around 1.54 million euros, and Bayer Leverkusen 1.42 million euros. Eintracht Frankfurt (1.17 million euros) and TSG Hoffenheim (1.05 million euros) also break the million-euro mark.

Bayern’s early exit from the DFB Cup costs the club additional revenue

The amount of the FIFA payments is based on the number of days that national team players are in action for their respective federations during the World Cup. Accordingly, the German national team’s early exit also had a financial impact on FC Bayern.

Together, Bayern and Borussia Dortmund provided a total of ten players for the DFB squad. However, their World Cup run ended much earlier than hoped for due to the elimination in the Round of 32 against Paraguay, causing the clubs to miss out on additional compensation payments.

Nevertheless, the bottom line for FC Bayern is positive: The Munich club is among those worldwide that receive the highest FIFA payments—and, in addition to the early return of its national team players, it also receives a welcome financial boost for the club’s coffers.
