Following Bayern Munich’s 1-3 loss to Arsenal in the Champions League, head coach Vincent Kompany offered a candid and composed analysis of the match. While acknowledging the disappointment, he emphasized that defeats are part of the sport and highlighted the fine margins that decided the game.

“Everyone can lose — that’s football,” Kompany began. “After the initial phase, I actually felt we grew into the match quite well in the first half and even had some momentum on our side. But somehow we didn’t come out of the dressing room the same way, and Arsenal took control of the game.”

Kompany was particularly impressed by Arsenal’s attention to detail and their ability to manage key moments. “Arsenal are incredibly good at game management. They handle even the small things — throw-ins, little fouls — exceptionally well. These details matter enormously in matches like this, and today they were better than us in those areas.”

Despite the disappointment, Kompany’s enthusiasm for this level of competition remained undiminished. “I hope we get games like this again very soon. They’re fun, and I honestly feel like playing on again right now.”

He also praised Mikel Arteta’s long-term work at Arsenal: “Arteta and Arsenal have fought for this for six years. They were challengers for so long, and now they know exactly what to do in the small moments to reach the top — even down to things like the ball boys taking a bit longer when needed.”

Kompany refused to search for excuses. “We lost today, and Arsenal were simply better than us. On the weekend we need to find new solutions, but my team gives me the feeling that they’re already hungry again.”

Looking ahead, the Belgian coach remained pragmatic about the broader Champions League campaign. “You don’t win the Champions League in November. Of course Arsenal go into their next games with confidence, but if we win matches like this in spring, it will mean much more. I’m just excited for the next battles at this level.”
