FC Bayern were on the verge of signing Rio Ngumoha, but now new details have emerged that show just how far talks had progressed

The failed transfer of Rio Ngumoha continues to be a topic of conversation at FC Bayern. After it had already become known that the Munich club had agreed in principle on a transfer with the 17-year-old attacking talent, further details of the negotiations have now come to light

As reported by Sky, talks between the German record champions and the young English player had been ongoing for several weeks, at which point Ngumoha was reportedly not completely satisfied with his sporting situation at Liverpool FC and was considering a move to the club

Bayern apparently took full advantage of this situation, holding direct talks with the player. Notably, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany also intervened personally and held a telephone conversation with the England youth international. It had previously become known that the Belgian was said to be a strong supporter of the signing and had given the green light for the transfer internally

However, the talks went much further than that. According to Sky, several meetings took place at Säbener Straße between Bayern officials and the player’s advisors. Even Ngumoha’s brother is said to have traveled to Munich in person to attend the talks

Bayern and Ngumoha already in full agreement

According to the report, the two sides were already in full agreement on the terms of the transfer. Bayern and Ngumoha are said to have agreed on a five-year contract. There were also no outstanding issues regarding the financial details. Both the salary and possible bonus payments had already been negotiated

This is precisely why the deal was considered to be at an advanced stage internally. According to Sky, Munich had already reached a verbal agreement with the player and his entourage at the end of May. Ngumoha was considered one of the most exciting attacking talents in Europe within the club and was even seen as a possible backup solution for dream player Luis Diaz

Despite the comprehensive agreement, the transfer ultimately fell at a crucial hurdle: there was no direct exchange between FC Bayern and Liverpool FC. According to the report, official negotiations between the two clubs never began

The Reds made it clear early on that they had no interest in selling their top talent. As a result, Bayern ultimately lacked the basis to finalize the transfer. A few days ago, the transfer therefore finally fell through.
