TSG Hoffenheim and Elversberg are through to the next round of the DFB-Pokal as Bundesliga sides maintain their perfect record. Hoffenheim beat Erzgebirge Aue 4-0, while Elversberg scored two late goals in a 3-1 win over Duisburg.

Patrick Wimmer only needed less than 20 minutes to register his first goal and assist for the Sinsheim club. The Austrian scored the opener after an assist from fellow new signing Nathan De Cat.

The former Wolfsburg midfielder then played Wouter Burger, who was the captain for the day, through on goal as Hoffenheim doubled their advantage from a move that would’ve been checked if there was VAR in place.

Wimmer completed his brace with the last kick of the first-half as he matched his previous tally of two goals from 12 DFB-Pokal appearances in his first 45 minutes as a Hoffenheim player. Bambasé Conté and Max Moerstedt combined for a goal two minutes after they came on as substitutes as Hoffenheim’s new number 9 opened his account for the season.

In contrast, Duisburg held Bundesliga debutants until Luca Schnellbacher put Elversberg in front just before the half-time break. The 32-year-old striker has only scored three times in Elversberg’s promotion campaign, but he continued his excellent pre-season as he wore the captain’s armband for the opening game of the season.

The 3. Liga side equalized ten minutes after the restart through Lex-Tyger Lobinger. They also had a couple of great chances to take the lead before substitute Francis Onyeka punished them with two excellent finishes.

The Bayer Leverkusen loanee scored his first goal for the club from close range before his superb injury-time strike sealed Elversberg’s place in the second round.
