Francesco Farioli hailed the commitment and level of his squad during Porto’s title celebrations on Avenida dos Aliados in the early hours. According to O Jogo, thousands watched as the coach addressed the crowd.
After all players and staff had paraded on a platform in the heart of the city, the 37-year-old Italian stepped forward to mark the national title.
He said the group were living a unique emotion, expressed pride in working with a team of such level and commitment, added that they had won together and would now celebrate, and thanked everyone.
The hockey player Carlo Di Benedetto then took the microphone and asked the coach for a repeat title. Farioli regrouped with his players to raise the trophy again as blue and white fans kept the party going.
The 31st crown was sealed on 2 May with a 1-0 home win over Alverca. The festivities were set around the final-day reception of Santa Clara, also a 1-0 victory.
After lifting the trophy at Estádio do Dragão, ending a four-year wait, the champions headed to the Douro for a boat trip to Ribeira. They then boarded an open-top bus for Avenida dos Aliados.
Porto also paid tribute to former player, captain and director Jorge Costa before the club anthem rang out. Players and staff began to leave the stage close to 2am, while the crowd stayed put.
