Díaz-Beitia named Athletic men’s first-team doctor | OneFootball

As reported by as.com, Gontzal Díaz-Beitia has been appointed as the new doctor for Athletic’s men’s first team, a promotion that recognises his long service within the club’s medical structure.

He will now work alongside Terzic’s staff at Lezama on a daily basis. The appointment was made by Josean Lekue, the head of Athletic’s medical services. The Getxo native has spent 23 years at Lezama in various roles.

Díaz-Beitia is the son of Gonzalo Beitia, the former Sestao striker who later coached in Athletic’s academy and with the reserves.

He recently led the club’s youth categories and has also served as doctor for the women’s first team during spells under Joseba Agirre, as well as for Bilbao Athletic.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of the Basque Country in 1997, then completed a Sports Medicine MIR at the University of Barcelona, based at the High Performance Centre in Sant Cugat.

Since 2007 he has been a lecturer in Human Physiology and Sports Physiology at EHU, a role he has combined with his long career at Lezama.
