Didier Deschamps made four half-time changes as France trailed 4-0 to England in the World Cup third-place play-off in Miami on Saturday.

It was an uncharacteristic step in his final match in charge, L'Équipe notes.

Rayan Cherki, Désiré Doué, Theo Hernandez and Ibrahima Konaté were withdrawn at the interval.

Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembélé, Lucas Digne and Dayot Upamecano came on.

The overhaul appeared to pay off immediately, as Kylian Mbappé scored in the 47th minute from Michael Olise’s precise pass after a run into space by Upamecano.
