One of the things that has stood out most about Chivas in their last two games is their defensive solidity. Gabriel Milito's game plans during El Clásico de México and the clash against Tigres allowed the Rebaño Sagrado to neutralize their opponents. This was obviously thanks to good collective performance, but also to great individual efforts, so today we're going to talk about one of the leaders of the Rojiblanca defense during the 2025 Apertura.
After eight rounds of the tournament, there is one Guadalajara defender who has made a very good impression thanks to his level of play, which has allowed the Rebaño to defend better and also generate better controlled attacks. That's right, we're talking about Diego Campillo, the Canterano Rojiblanco who returned home for the current 2025 Apertura.
The defender has earned Gabriel Milito's trust since his return to Guadalajara, so much so that he has participated in all the tournament's matches, either as a starter or as a substitute. In terms of numbers, Campillo has played in all eight matches, accumulating 521 minutes played and ranking sixth among the Rojiblancos in terms of participation in the competition.
Against América, the Durango native was able to prevail in individual duels and also show a tremendous ability to correct actions behind his teammates. If there is one thing that has always stood out about his performance, it is his ball skills, which he has complemented in an extraordinary way with this great defensive evolution. In fact, he is the Chiverío player with the best pass completion rate (91%) in the first eight games of the tournament.
In the match against Tigres, Diego Campillo once again demonstrated his ability to anticipate, steal the ball, and command Guadalajara's attacks. He was able to prevail over the attackers he faced, made a couple of saves that saved the Rojiblanco goal, and was also a constant passing and attacking option for the Rebaño Sagrado, so much so that he even provoked a yellow card in the second half of the match.
Chivas' number 19 has made a big impression on his return home, as in addition to strengthening the defense, he has provided extremely valuable versatility. He has played as a midfielder, a center back, and also as a right back, reflecting his value to the team and the solutions he can provide to the coaching staff.
