Diego Simeone sends message to Atlético Madrid fans after latest disappointing result | OneFootball

Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has called for ‘patience’, after his side’s underwhelming opening to the new campaign continued on Saturday.

Atléti marked their return to action yesterday evening, welcoming newly-promoted Elche to Spain’s capital for a La Liga clash.

And despite taking the lead inside the opening 10 minutes, the Rojiblancos were ultimately forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

This comes after Alexander Sørloth’s opener was cancelled out decisively by Rafa Mir at the other end.

As much means that Atlético Madrid have now picked up just a point from their first two outings of the campaign in Spain’s top-flight.

After a big-spending summer transfer window, such woes have culminated in widespread frustration amongst the club’s supporters.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle on Saturday, Diego Simeone was therefore keen to send a message of encouragement the way of his side’s fanbase:

“Patience, calm, knowing the players we have and, of course, working accordingly with the good team we have. From there, we need to keep working along these lines, with a bit more decisiveness.

“The fans are right about their frustration. We made a mistake on their goal, it was our error. We gave everything to win the match but couldn’t. We’re working to make the most of the players’ strengths. I have no doubt that the results will come.”
