Diego Simeone will remain in charge of Atlético Madrid next season, despite talk of a summer departure.

AS reports the 55-year-old and Atlético have agreed to plan for next season, and says the current trend points to talks over an extension beyond 2027. El Chiringuito had claimed a pre-contract with Serie A leaders Inter.

Simeone is under contract until June 2027 and is being courted by several European heavyweights, including Inter, where he played from 1997 to 1999.

Both he and the hierarchy prefer to focus on the run-in before addressing his contract situation.

The Argentine is entering his 15th year at the helm, having taken over in 2011, managed 785 matches and won eight trophies.

Atlético are fourth in La Liga and reached the Spanish Cup final in early March after eliminating Barcelona in the semi-finals.

They remain in Europe and will meet Barcelona again in the Champions League quarter-finals on 8 and 14 April. With Champions League qualification in sight, that leaves three major targets to secure by the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
