Alphonso Davies is once again missing FC Bayern through injury. After the win in Wolfsburg, Vincent Kompany spoke about the Canadian’s condition and chose clear words.

Davies suffered a muscle injury in his rear left thigh in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain, FC Bayern officially announced on Friday. The 25-year-old will be out for several weeks and will therefore not be available for the Munich side in the final sprint of the season.

Kompany was asked about Davies at the press conference after Bayern’s 1-0 win in Wolfsburg. The Bayern coach does not see the physical side as the biggest problem: „Physically, I’m not worried about him. He’ll be back and everything will be fine.“

Kompany is more worried about the mental strain after the next setback. „But mentally it’s extremely tough. These little injuries that keep coming back are hard to cope with,“ said the Belgian. It’s not the first injury-related setback for Davies that has slowed him down.

Davies‘ participation in the World Championship is still uncertain

The World Cup with Canada also remains an issue for Davies. Kompany explained: „We’ll see what happens with regard to the World Cup. We’ll help and support him.“ The left-back is one of the most important players in his national team, but will now have to wait and see in the coming weeks.

The Bayern coach wants to instil confidence in his player at this stage. „I would just look Phonzy in the eye and tell him to keep going. There’s no other way. He shouldn’t be afraid. Fear is the biggest enemy in a situation like this.“

The loss is also a bitter blow for Munich in sporting terms. Davies was a permanent fixture on the left flank, but Kompany will now have to make do without the Canadian in the coming games. The 25-year-old will also miss the DFB Cup final against VfB Stuttgart. It remains to be seen whether he will be ready for action again in time for the World Cup.
