Diniz says Wesley wants Corinthians return and could be an important addition | OneFootball

Fernando Diniz has confirmed Corinthians are pursuing forward Wesley and said the homegrown attacker wants to return, adding a deal could be significant if it advances.

"Our top priority, our biggest reinforcement, is to keep the squad together. If we can avoid losing anyone, that will be good," he told sportv. He spoke before Sunday’s friendly with Cascavel in Paraná.

"We will target good players such as Wesley, who came through the club and has qualities I like, a dribbler who wants to come back. If this matures, it will be an important reinforcement for us," Diniz added.

Behind the scenes, the board are in talks with Wesley’s representatives, and he was close to Cruzeiro in recent days. The financial package is the main hurdle amid a wider cash crunch and difficulties meeting wages.

Corinthians are also under an active transfer ban linked to a US$ 1.5 million debt to Philadelphia Union from the 2024 signing of midfielder José Martínez, worth R$ 7.7 million at current rates. The club could face another Fifa sanction over non-payment for midfielder Charles, signed from Midtjylland in 2024.
