FC Porto coach Francesco Farioli addressed supporters in Portuguese at Alameda das Antas during celebrations of the club’s 31st league title, with captain Diogo Costa thanking fans and promising more next year.
According to O Jogo, Farioli greeted the Portista family, said they had become a team again and stressed the triumph was shared by all.
Diogo Costa said they had missed nights like this, praised the fans’ importance, and noted they had believed in the squad’s values. He added there would be more next year.
Some team-mates chose sharper words for the Sporting president and Benfica’s coach, while Costa kept to gratitude.
The long wait for thousands gathered at the Alameda do Dragão ended at about 1.30am when players began to file along a structure linking the North Stand to the Coreto.
Thiago Silva was first to be called, Victor Froholdt proved among the most extrovert and Rodrigo Mora drew some of the loudest applause. Zaidu showed off his dance moves, and Pepê taunted by rubbing both hands over his face as if wiping away tears. A melon was also shown on stage, then thrown.
During the festivities, fans also aimed chants at rivals. The vast majority of players on the Coreto, however, focused on celebrating the championship’s return, four years after their previous crown.
