Diogo Ferreira has signed a new Benfica contract running to 2031. The club confirmed the 19-year-old goalkeeper’s extension, which follows his promotion to the first team last season and comes after interest from Académico de Viseu.
Although he is working under Marco Silva, indications are that he will continue to collect minutes with the B team, as in 2025/26. That could change, with the goalkeeping picture at Benfica still to be defined.
An academy product, Ferreira arrived at Seixal in 2019 and has climbed each rung of the youth pathway. He has won two national youth championships and a junior title, marking him out as one of the academy’s most promising keepers.
He described the renewal as an incredible, long-awaited step that brings a sense of work well done, while stressing he is far from satisfied. He wants to achieve big things for the club and works every day with that aim.
Ferreira also underlined the value of training alongside Anatoliy Trubin and Samuel Soares, whom he regards as benchmarks. He recalled watching Soares in the academy and being in the set-up when Trubin arrived, and said learning a little from them daily feels incredible.
