Diogo Valente retires at 41 after spells with FC Porto, Boavista and Braga | OneFootball

Winger Diogo Valente has retired at 41 after a career that included spells with FC Porto, Boavista and Braga. He stepped away on Saturday.

He finished as Salgueiros captain after five seasons with the club. The club said in a post that it marked the close of his 23rd year in senior football and saluted their number 23.

Salgueiros have secured their place in the Campeonato de Portugal, as did Saturday’s opponents, União de Lamas.

The farewell message thanked Valente for what he gave to Portuguese football and to Salgueiros, describing it as a beautiful career.

It added that he would always be considered one of theirs.
