One director has confirmed a coach is heading to Europe amid links to Liverpool.

It's been a spectacularly bad campaign for Arne Slot and the Reds. Things could be about to get worse. One bad result is all it will take for the Reds to not qualify for the Champions League.

After that defeat to Aston Villa, Liverpool now find themselves needing to beat Brentford at Anfield on the final day of the season.

Normally this would be a formality. But normally has to be emphasised because things are no longer that simple. This is not an ordinary season for the Reds.

Under Slot, this campaign has turned into a disaster. It's a miracle that Liverpool are even on the cusp of qualifying for Champions League football considering they have lost 20 games this season - a club record.

How bad things have gotten is a massive indictment on Slot. He's not been able to manage things very well and Liverpool have suffered as a result.

Things are now completely out of his control. Many fans are calling for him to be replaced. His most obvious replacement though has just joined Chelsea with Xabi Alonso becoming their next manager. What this means for Liverpool remains to be seen.

There are still plenty of seriously impressive coaches out there. Andoni Iraola, Sebastian Hoeness and Julian Nagelsmann are likely going to be on the club's shortlist.

That is of course if they actually want to get rid of Slot. For most rational fans this would be an absurd outcome. However, it seems like FSG and the club's board may see something in Slot that absolutely nobody does.

What this is, is a mystery. But the messaging from the club appears to be that Slot's job is safe. Liverpool are building on a future under the Dutchman.

How implausible it may seem, it doesn't look like Slot is going anywhere.

And if you needed more confirmation of this, you need to look no further than the latest reports coming out of Feyenoord - Slot's former club.

For a few weeks now there have been strong rumours linking coach Etiënne Reijnen with a move to Liverpool. He is currently an assistant manager at Feyenoord and he has worked with Slot in the past.

Speaking to ESPN, Feyenoord's director Dennis te Kloese confirmed that Reijnen is heading to a club in Europe and will be leaving his current role working under the club's manager Robin van Persie.

Given the links with Liverpool that feels like a confirmation that Reijnen will likely be heading to Anfield. It's also an evident based on this report that Slot is going nowhere.

Liverpool would not be appointing one of Slot's former right-hand man if they did not seriously plan for a future with the Dutchman in charge.

However, bleak things will get. However, bad the final game of the season will be. It looks like nothing will change the club's mind on the position of the manager.

That is a grim thought for all Liverpool fans. But it's the reality we must come to accept.
