Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker is far from happy with the club’s transfer business in January, noting that ‘even Tottenham’ outperformed the Red Devils on that front.
The Red Devils sent Antony and Tyrell Malacia out on loan to Real Betis and PSV Eindhoven respectively, but the transfer saga that dominated the headlines revolved around Marcus Rashford who ended up signing for Aston Villa on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.
On the other hand, only Patrick Dorgu and the young Ayden Heaven joined the club in the middle of the season, which was hardly enough to satisfy the club’s supporters who were hoping for substantial additions who could help lift the club from its current miserable place in the standings (13th in the Premier League table), especially in the final third of the pitch.
Hence, Parker echoed the fans’ disappointment by noting that fellow strugglers Spurs have at least managed to sign Mathys Tel.
“I was very disappointed with United’s business in January. I was expecting at least two players through the door and I thought it was going to be the club’s saving grace this season, to be honest!” said the Man Utd legend in his interview with Instant Casino (via Metro).
“The squad needed some players with energy and pace so Ruben Amorim could at least match most teams in the Premier League, but he only got Patrick Dorgu in the end.
“Even Tottenham have gone and brought in another attacking player in Mathys Tel, who looked like one of their best players against Aston Villa on Sunday. He had some good movement, brought some energy and scored a good goal – he’s exactly what United need in their attacking positions at the moment.”
Man Utd were also keen to recruit Tel, but reportedly couldn’t convince Bayern Munich to add an option to buy, while Tottenham found more success in that particular mission.
