Disciplinary panel downgrades Endrick red card to second yellow

Endrick’s direct red at Nantes has been reclassified as a second yellow, leaving the Lyon forward with a one-match ban. The LFP said in a statement that the dismissal now counts as two bookings, so he will only miss Nice on Sunday at Groupama Stadium at 20:45.

It was the first sending-off of his career and came in Lyon’s 1-0 win, their 12th successive victory in all competitions. Fouled early by Matthis Abline, Endrick was booked in the 2nd minute for a retaliatory foul, then dismissed in the 61st minute for a blow to Dehmaine Tabibou’s ankle. Referee Mathieu Vernice initially showed a second yellow, before VAR intervention saw it upgraded to a straight red.

Under the disciplinary scale, a direct red carries at least two matches, which would have sidelined him beyond Nice, including Strasbourg the following Sunday at 20:45, and possibly Marseille on 1 March.

Before the trip, he had not received a Ligue 1 yellow this season, though he was cautioned against Laval in the Coupe de France round of 16 three days earlier. A longer ban would have mattered for Lyon, whose attacking resources remain limited.

Endrick has five goals and three assists in six outings across the league and cup, reshaping the threat Paulo Fonseca’s side can pose. Fonseca did not bring on a striker to replace him after the dismissal at La Beaujoire.

Against Nice on Sunday, Lyon can call on centre-forward Roman Iaremtchouk, a late winter-window signing who has trained with the group this week. Malick Fofana, out since November with an ankle problem, is expected to return at the end of the month.

The commission also revisited a similar Ligue 2 case, withdrawing Ugo Bonnet’s red from Annecy’s 1-1 draw with Grenoble on 6 February and reclassifying it as a booking. One-match bans were handed to Ruben Aguilar (Lens), Ismaël Doukouré (Strasbourg), Matthis Abline (Nantes), Carlens Arcus (Angers), Adama Camara (Paris FC), Maxime Lopez (Paris FC) and Mark Mckenzie (Toulouse FC).
