Liverpool kicked off the transfer window by signing Victor Munoz.

The Spaniard, 23, arrived from Osasuna for €40m after Richard Hughes triggered his release clause.

With Mohamed Salah leaving - and potentially Federico Chiesa - the outgoing Premier League champions made a quick start in getting a new wing option in.

But a few weeks later and fans can be forgiven for being a little apprehensive.

Liverpool still need new wingers

While Munoz represents a fine opportunistic signing he is a left-winger by trade and isn’t expected to be a nailed-on starter.

The Anfield side still require a proper replacement for Salah and other wide forward options to be added to the squad for new head coach Andoni Iraola.

Yan Diomande was the first choice - but Liverpool have missed out on the Ivorian teenager’s signing. The 19-year-old RB Leipzig forward will instead head to Paris Saint-Germain if the Bundesliga club okay his departure in this window.

That development has left Richard Hughes scrabbling around for a new forward - with Matias Fernandez-Pardo, Yankuba Minteh and Said El Mala all mentioned as potential targets.

Antonio Nusa: Plan B

It was also claimed a few weeks ago that Antonio Nusa - Diomande’s Leipzig teammate - was being looked at as a Plan B in case a move for the young African superstar failed.

Nusa, 21, would be much cheaper than Diomande - whose price has risen beyond nine figures. The Norwegian instead is said to be available for around €60m - with his Leipzig contract expiring in 2029.

Liverpool are going to have to get moving however as it’s being reported that Arsenal have entered the running to sign the Norway FIFA World Cup star.

Mikel Arteta’s side will kick off the bidding at only €40m - with Richard Hughes now running out of time to put a rival bid together.

Arsenal launch €40m offer for Nusa

“Arsenal are preparing an offer worth around €40m for Antonio Nusa this month,” reports Caught Offside.

The Premier League title-holders need replacements in attack having sold Leandro Trossard to Besiktas. Liverpool’s needs are greater however due to Salah’s departure and a need for one-v-one quality out wide this summer.

Although Nusa is a more natural left winger than right the former Club Brugge starlet is capable of featuring in that position too.
