A Bola reports that Dodi Lukebakio is unlikely to stay at Benfica next season after his exchange with José Mourinho during the Moreirense match.
The Belgium international reacted badly to being substituted and argued with the coach on the touchline.
After the match, Mourinho said Lukebakio had not liked being taken off and, with a hint of irony, linked the Belgian's limited minutes to Gianluca Prestianni.
The episode is seen as the last straw for the board led by Rui Costa, after frustration with the winger's inconsistent form. A permanent transfer or a loan is being considered and the club are willing to negotiate for the 28-year-old.
A meeting is expected in the coming days between Mourinho and Lukebakio to discuss the incident calmly. The coach wants a swift resolution and is not waiting for an apology.
Lukebakio joined from Sevilla for 20 million euros. He has a contract to summer 2030 that includes a 50 million euro clause.
