The U19s comfortably beat Galatasaray A.Ş. 4-0 in their opening UEFA Youth League match. Goals from captain Fenyö, Staff, Dzanovic and Prenaj clinched the three points.
The contest began at a frenetic pace but it was Eintracht who started better and produced a disciplined and strong performance over 90 minutes. They consequently took the lead in the 35th minute, when Noah Fenyö was teed up well by Niklas Scheller from a corner and took his chance to give Frankfurt a deserved 1-0 lead at half-time.
Clear-cut after sending-off
After Galatasaray substitute Abdulsamet Simsek was shown a red card for a foul in the 53rd minute, Frankfurt took advantage of their extra man and doubled the lead in the 63rd minute courtesy of Alexander Staff’s header. Benjamin Dzanovic made it 3-0 just five minutes later, before Christian Prenaj rounded off the scoring in the 87th minute. The 4-0 scoreline was a fair result as the Eintracht youngsters celebrated a perfect start to their UEFA Youth League campaign with three points. Reaction Alex Meier, U19 head coach: “We showed some nerves at the start, but that’s perfectly normal. In the second half in particular we produced a commanding performance. We’ve started with a win; the boys did brilliantly and were up for it. We dominated the game and deserved to win. The boys get on really well with each other. We linked up a bit better in the second half. We’re facing top teams in this competition, which is another reason why I’m very pleased with the lads.”
