Lazio and Monza have reached a full agreement over the transfer of Gaetano Castrovilli, as confirmed by multiple sources in the Italian press.
The 27-year-old rose onto the scene during his time at Fiorentina, enjoying his breakthrough in 2019/20. He even went on to clinch the European Championship with the Italian national team in 2021. However, a couple of knee injuries wrecked his momentum and eventually led to his release from the Tuscan side at the end of the previous campaign.
Lazio decided to bet on a career revival at the Stadio Olimpico, but the Italian failed to impose himself in Marco Baroni’s midfield department. Castrovilli has only played 158 minutes this season in all competitions and has yet to make a direct goal contribution. Therefore, the Biancocelesti are ready to pull the trigger on this short spell in the capital.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio have agreed to send the Italy international on a dry loan to Monza in what will be the second operation conducted between the two clubs this month (after Akpa Akpro). Moreover, the Biancorossi’s CEO Adriano Galliani has managed to strike a swift agreement with the player’s agent Alessandro Lucci on personal terms.
Unlike Di Marzio, fellow Italian journalist Nicolo Schira believes Monza will have the option to buy the Bari youth product at the end of the season. Alfredo Pedulla also weighs in on the expected Castrovilli transfer, while adding that Bologna are still pushing to sign young Lazio winger Loum Tchaouna, even if Giovanni Fabbian doesn’t move in the opposite direction.
