The nominees for the 2026 Yashin trophy, the award given out to the best goalkeeper as part of the Ballon d’Or ceremony, have been released on Tuesday morning, but for the first time in three years, the shortlist does not include Italy’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.

No Donnarumma on 2026 Yashin Trophy shortlist

There are no Italian or Serie A representatives included in the list of 10 goalkeepers that have been awarded for the 2026 Yashin Trophy.

The names that have been included are Yassine Bounou (Al-Hilal/Morocco), Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid/Belgium), Joan Garcia (Barcelona/Spain), Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund/Switzerland), Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa & Chelsea/Argentina), Edouar Mendy (Al-Ahli/Senegal), David Raya (Arsenal/Spain), Matvey Safonov (PSG/Russia), Unai Simon (Athletic Club/Spain) and Vozinha (Colo-Colo & GD Chaves/Cape Verde).

Donnarumma is the reigning winner of the Yashin Trophy, claiming the award in 2025 after helping PSG to their first ever Champions League trophy at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

The Italy national team captain is one of two goalkeepers to have won the award twice (2021 and 2025), along with Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez, who won the inaugural prize in 2019 and again in 2023 in the ceremony that followed the 2022 World Cup.
